Choose lamps which can be placed on low surfaces as these can then be turned on and off according to your needs.

Chandeliers are a great choice when it comes to lighting in the sitting room; sparkling crystal drops add glamour and ambience to any space. Chandeliers are available in classic antique styles or in pared-down contemporary designs.

For the dressing table however it is a good idea to consider some stronger lighting such as mirror lights which can be turned on when make up application necessitates a good, clear light.

For children’s bedrooms, lighting can be fun and pretty or even quirky. Night lights and novelty lamps can be wall-mounted or free-standing and should reflect a child’s taste. A desk lamp is a good addition to the lighting for older children’s bedrooms so that they can complete homework in peace.

When it comes to selecting the right lighting for your home, it is good to remember that not only are looks important but also functionality, choose good quality light fittings and lamps and you will find that your lighting does not need to be updated too regularly but will last for many years to come.
